Finally…

October 17th, 2009

I finally found a job. It’s not the greatest pay or the best location, but it’s a job all the same. And lucky me, it’s a pharm tech job. I’ve only gone through two days of training so far, so I can’t say yet whether this new gig is wonderful or horrible. Training only involved me sitting at the computer watching simulations and answering test questions for ten hours. (At least I got paid for it). I’m hoping my technician license comes soon though. I can only work for 60 days without it, and they haven’t even mailed me a confirmation of my application yet. I’m getting a little worried, but hopefully that will be taken care of soon. I want to get this job going…!

Oh, I Wish I Had an Interview Guru…

July 1st, 2009

I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not the greatest at interviews. In fact, I’m pretty darn bad at them. Something about being critiqued for how I speak, how I dress, and how I act just does not appeal to me. I get nervous, my hands get shaky, and I start stammering my words. So before each interview, I search the internet for tips on what questions will be asked and how to answer them. When it comes to people like me (who can’t think on their feet), practicing my responses verbatim may be just what I need to impress my next interviewer. So here, I have constructed a little something to assist me next time I happen to score an interview. Read more…

Studies Show: Unemployment Leads to Blogging (At Least in My Case)

June 22nd, 2009
So far this summer, I have gone through at least twenty applications, one unsuccessful interview, and zero job offers. I would like to blame the economy, but then how would I explain all the people my age or younger who are currently employed? I guess most of the blame then lies on my inability to make a good, lasting impression. It doesn’t help that the only job experience I have is waitressing at a retirement home that refuses to ever hire me again because I gave a one-and-a-half week notice instead of a two-week notice.
To top if off, I’ve spent almost two hundred dollars on just clothes, food, and entertainment. Whether it’s going out for dinner with a big group of friends or just relaxing by the pool with my girls, spending time with people can be expensive. I am literally earning a negative income here. If I was still a child, this would be totally acceptable. Or if I was rich, I could have a reality show documenting my enviable all play and no work lifestyle. Unfortunately, I am neither a child nor rich, so what I have become is just a bum.
Due to this recent inactivity, I have been suckled into the world of blogging. So while my family and friends slave away at summer school or at work, I sit. And I write. Yes, I realize the patheticism in everything that I am confessing. But to be honest, my life is so depressing right now, I don’t even care what people think. Blogging is what I have to do now to keep my brain from rotting away (not that there’s much left of my brain anyway), and with two more months left of summer break, this blogging business might even help me keep my sanity.
