The Proposal

July 7th, 2009

Rating: ★★★★½

I was tempted to give this movie 5 stars. The Proposal is cute and funny. Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock had me falling in love with both of them. This was the kind of movie you could watch more than once and not get tired of it. It’s a great movie to watch with the girls, with the family, or even a hot date.

Only a couple negatives come to mind when it comes to The Proposal. One complaint is that this movie is too much of a chick flick. It’s not something a guy can go see with his buddies. My other complaint is that there were a few parts that left me thinking, “What the heck…?” But neither complaint really bothered me at all, personally.

Overall, I found the movie to be charming, delightful, silly, enjoyable, amusing, and all the other good adjectives you can think of.

Barbeques and Bruises

July 6th, 2009

Lately, it feels like I am constantly PMSing. I don’t know if it’s the summer heat, or all the crap that’s been piling up in my life, but I’ve been excessively moody these past few weeks. I couldn’t help being a huge brat Friday night, and I think my crankiness carried over to Saturday because I woke up feeling crummy. But after crying my eyes out for a good half of Independence Day, I got a text from my good friend Brittany that was surprisingly helpful, considering she was unaware of my then-current mood. A phone call from another good friend Aparna a short while later made me decide to stop being such an emotional wreck. Distracting myself seemed like my only option. So out the door I went… Read more…

Happy Fourth!

July 4th, 2009

…Or not. For whatever reason, I’m feeling pretty down today. Maybe it’s because it’s looking so gloomy outside my window. It’s supposed to rain all day, and the temperature won’t even reach 70 degrees. Looks like we won’t be pulling out the barbeque grills today. Nevertheless, Happy Independence Day =)

Life Lessons

July 2nd, 2009

In a few days, my third month of summer break will officially begin. Sadly, all I have to show for these past couple of months is that I am finally two-thirds of the way finished with my summer reading goal. After reading partway through a few novels, I finally settled on one that didn’t bore me half to death.

Love & Other Recreational Sports by John Dearie is a fiction novel told from the perspective of a thirty-five-year-old single male living alone in Manhattan. This is one of the most entertaining books I’ve read in a while, and to my surprise, it wasn’t totally predictable. This novel is witty, realistic, and frankly, it’s my kind of book.

From the novel, I pulled out several theories that were either reassuring or eye-opening. A few of these theories were ideas I had already come to terms with; the others were new and refreshing. But all of them I agree with, one hundred percent. Read more…

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

July 2nd, 2009

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Despite my utter lack of interest in comic book movies and my even deeper lack of interest in robot movies, I willingly went to the theater last week to watch Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Why? For no better reason than to please the person that I was with. Well, that, and because it’s the sequel to the first Transformers, which I happen to have watched last year to please the very same person. Read more…
